HEAD INSTRUCTOR

Mike Fowler

Besides a small amount of time spent in Taekwondo as a child, Mike Fowler began his martial arts career at the age of 18.  Having a slight wrestling background was a great Foundation to begin learning jiujitsu.

Originally starting out doing mixed martial arts, Mike learned there wasn’t much opportunity at being such a small size at this time in NHB fights. So after going 2-0 in mixed martial arts Mike dedicated his time to fully training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

He quit college for culinary arts with a 4.0 and dropped everything to move to Maryland to train full-time with Blackbelt Lloyd Irvin. Sitting down and discussing many goals one of which was to receive the black belt in three and a half years just like BJ Penn and Lloyd Irvin had done before.

With extreme diligence and help from a great team he was able to achieve that goal and became the third ever fastest American to earn a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt.

During the road to Blackbelt Mike was internationally competing up to 20 times per year. It wasn’t enough to just earn the Blackbelt but also to prove that it belonged around his waist.

Highlights of his career have been Wins Over the legendary Renzo Gracie. And multiple time world champion and Abu Dhabi Champion Saulo Ribeiro, who succumbed to a footlock.  One of the few times Saulo has ever tap in competition.

While still in competition, Mike’s main focus has been teaching and traveling doing seminars.  Sharing the art has always been a much greater feeling than solo competition.

Mike’s home base is on the North Shore of Hawaii where he runs a nonprofit jiujitsu Academy serving the local community.
